The Township of Esquimalt is located at Vancouver island's southern tip, British Columbia. The municipality is bounded to the south by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, towards the east by Victoria, the provincial capital city, to the west by Esquimalt Harbour and Royal Roads, to the north by narrow inlet of water called the Gorge, across which is the district municipality of Saanich. The northwest border is by the View Royal and the New Songhees IR No. 1A Indian Reserve. Esquimalt is a part of Greater Victoria and also part of the Capital Regional District.
In the year 2001, Esquimalt had a population of 16,127. It is home to the Pacific fleet of the Canadian Forces.
